Cat Eye Map Short on the inner corner, longer on the outer corner. Best for clients with round eyes as it levels out the contour and adds a seductive look. Avoid for clients with upturned or downturned eyes, as it can make their eyes appear smaller and accentuate the downturned outer corners.   Doll Eye Map Short on the inner corner, longer in the middle, shorter on the outer corner. Creates an open-eyed, brightened effect. Ideal for monolid, hooded, and almond-shaped eyes.   Natural Eye Map Lash extensions are designed to match the client's natural lashes, with the longest lashes reaching the brow arch. Suitable for all clients, offering a subtle, natural look. Not the choice for clients looking for a more dramatic, voluminous effect.     Cat Mapping:  Use the longest lashes towards the outside edge of the lashes to create the illusion of wide-set "exotic" eyes. Doll eye lashes are ideal for clients who have smaller eyes, as the lashes will give the illusion of a wider eye. Doll eyes also work well for those with very fine or sparse lashes as they add volume and length without weighing down the client's natural lashes. Doll eyelashes are a popular choice for lash extensions. This look is very natural and soft but still very glamorous. The doll eyelash map aims to make sure the natural lashes have a uniform appearance and the look of having a doll eye putting the most amount of emphasis in the middle of the eye.   STEP #1  Create 5 sections. Eyelash extensions come in various lengths in each section. You can use the eye patches to map out your set. (Shorter lengths on the inner, longer lengths on the middle and shorter lengths on the outer)   STEP #2 Start from the inner corner of your client's eye and use the shorter extensions to fill in the space. The extensions will gradually lengthen until they reach the center of the eye. (You can use 8 to 12mm lengths). If your client wants longer lashes, you can use longer lengths or shorter lengths if your client wants a more natural set.   STEP #3 The final section is essential for a clean lash set. You can use the same lash lengths as in the inner corner. If you do not properly disinfect your eyelash tweezers, then you risk: Getting an infection or even cross-contamination from one client to the next. You are making your clients unhappy by giving them eye infections. Damage your lash tweezers by using alcohol on them.   HOW OFTEN YOU SHOULD DISINFECT YOUR LASH TWEEZERS? It would help if you disinfected your tweezers every day after every client. You want to disinfect them because you don't want to spread bacteria or germs from one client to another.  If you're a lash artist, you're probably already aware that proper sanitation is essential to the success of your business. While it's necessary to keep all of your tools clean and sterile, disinfecting your tweezers should be exceptionally high on your priority list. Each time you have a client, you should disinfect your tweezers. So let me show you a step by step on how to do it.   STEP #1: WORK IN A SANITIZED AREA The first thing you want to do is make sure that you clean the area where you're working. So here we're using the Benzarid solution. It's a cleaner, a disinfectant, a virucide, and a fungicide.You want to clean everything, the sink nicely. Ensure that everything is clean and sanitary in the area you're working on. Make sure that you're wiping everything.   A clean paper towel or towel and disinfectant cleaning spray can be used. To disinfect all of your surfaces, including the sink and other areas, your door handle, massage table, and other things.   STEP #2: WASH YOU HANDS The next step is to wash your hands for at least 20 to 30 seconds, use a handwashing soap, get it between the fingers, and scrub well. Make sure that your hands are really clean. Remove every piece of jewelry if you have any.     STEP #3: WASH YOUR TWEEZERSBefore soaking in the disinfectant, make sure the tools are clean. You can use acetone or tweezer cleaner. Suppose your tweezers have glue on them or different other residues. Alternatively, you can use a tweezer cleaner to get the glue off you. You can also use your fingers and your nails and remove them. It's also a good idea to spin the tweezers within the bottle so that they may make touch with the sponge ball.Wipe the extra liquid from the tweezers before removing them from the bottle. So it's much easier to remove the black glue because you can physically see it. Try to remove it as much as possible from your tweezers. Just be careful not to poke yourself because tweezers are sharp.The next step you want to do is to use a brush instead of using your fingernails to remove the adhesive from the tweezers. Lightly brush the tip of the tweezers.   This can be done in several ways. Using your fingertips is one option. Make sure to rub the tweezers and get every part of them completely.You can also use a sponge to clean your tweezers. Sponges are easy to maneuver since they are soft. You may also use a smaller sponge to fit it between the tweezers.You can also use a disposable lash spoolie or a cleaning brush. Because the bristles are thick enough to avoid harming tweezers, spoolies are great for cleansing them.Cleaning your tweezer can also be done using a little brush with thick bristles. This method makes it simple to scrub tweezers without damaging them. The bristles function well because they clear any surface dirt that may have gotten lodged between the tweezers.   STEP #4 USE A DISINFECTANT SOLUTION Barbicide is the most popular disinfectant used by lash artists to disinfect their tools. Barbicide is a brand name for a cleaning solution formulated to kill bacteria and other germs. Barbicide can be used to clean a variety of tools, including tweezers.To disinfect your tweezers, apply a barbicide. Because barbicide is concentrated, you'll need a measuring cup. Having a concentrated mix is that one bottle lasts a long time and takes up little shelf space. To shop, please click here.   However, you can soak your tools in PreEmpt Cs20 disinfectant. It's a sterilant and disinfectant with a high level of effectiveness for medical instruments. It has a 14-day reuse period, so you can keep using the same disinfectant for two weeks. Because it is corrosive, you must handle it with extreme caution. Always wear gloves when handling it. You should soak your tweezers for at least 20 minutes. Having multiple sets of tools is important because you will not always have 20 minutes between sessions. TIP: Even if surfaces like jade stones do not come into contact with the eyes, sterilize them. You can clean your jade stones using alcohol. Acetone can be used to dissolve any excess glue.   STEP #5 PUT YOUR TWEEZERS ON A TRAY OR CONTAINERA small container or a tool sterilizer tray might be used (you can purchase one from amazon).Gently place the tweezers in the tray, making sure they are side by side and not jumbled. Make sure that they are completely submerged in the disinfectant. Allow it to soak for at least 20 minutes. To avoid losing any length in the lashes, try lash extensions that are longer on the outer corners of the eye, which will give them a subtle lift. For clients with hooded eyes, make sure you have plenty of short lengths. This eye shape has a bit of an extra fold of skin at the crease of the eye, so it can be hard to see longer lash extensions. Lengthening and opening up the eyes is ideal for this eye shape, but you don't want to apply too many long lashes, or they can weigh down the eyelids and cause them to close! A great style for this eye shape is alternating lengths — using a few long lashes on each fan — so that there's still some length but doesn't look overbearing.   The key to great lash extensions for hooded eyes is to create dimension. You want to make sure you have enough length in the center of the eye and lift at the outer corners. If you are making "big" fans, you want to ensure that your fan is shaped like a V or U. If you are making traditional volume lashes, you must keep in mind that you should use more of a C-curl lash than a B-curl lash. The C-curl will help bring more lift and give the illusion of a lifted lid. This eye shape usually can tolerate 15mm–16mm length with ease and will not look overdone.   Remember, it's all about creating more space on the top lid. If your client wants a more dramatic eye, apply closer together (more volume). If they want a more natural enhancement, then space them out accordingly! The eyelid is surrounded by a crease that is not visible from the outside. However, since there isn't any definition on the lid, lashes can be challenging to apply to get that perfect look. When using lash extensions for a monolid eye shape, your best bet would be to use eyelash extensions with curl, thickness, and length to create a defined look. You should avoid using straight or flat lashes as they will not have enough curves for this eye shape.   Just because your client doesn't have a crease doesn't mean she can't have gorgeous lashes! Lash artists working on monolids can achieve a similar look to double eyelids by adding length and volume to the outer corners of the eyes. Opening the eyes at the outer corners creates an illusion that gives the eyes depth and makes them pop. For clients with monolids, I love using a mix of 8mm and 12mm lashes. The shorter lashes are added to the inner corners of the eyes to create depth and definition. While the longer lashes are added towards the outer corners of the eyes for a winged effect. Many people with this eye shape think they can't wear eyelash extensions, but they can! You have to be careful about the thickness and length you choose. Because there is no crease, you don't want to go too long because your lashes will bend back and not look as pretty. I recommend a C curl or B curl with 8mm-12mm length. You can also do volume lash extensions on this eye, but you need to make sure that the lash fans aren't too big (2-3D is fine). Again, make sure that your lashes aren't too long because they will bend back and look funny on this type of eye. CLEAN THE EYE AREA Ensure the skin is clean and free of makeup, and remove any extra oils. It is essential since squeaky clean skin allows the gel pad and tape to adhere to the skin much better. If you tape over eyelids in a different section, the skin is clean, and the tape can adhere well. You can wipe all over the entire under-eye near the eyebrows. Clean the client's lashes using lash foam shampoo. Make sure you clean the bases of the lashes thoroughly, particularly the lash line since this is where many build-ups occur. You can gently press down the under-eye skin with your index fingers to assist in stretching out the lash line, making it simpler to align the gel pad to the bottom lash line with the thin strips of tape. To properly secure the bottom lashes and prevent them from slipping out under the gel pads, apply one strip diagonally to ensure the inner corner lashes and the other along the outside corner lashes, very much positioning the tape along the line.   TIP: While you're doing this, ask your clients to look away from where you're laying the tape. It will help them focus and keep them from fluttering or blinking. If you ever need to adjust the tape, you can use your tweezers since it's much easier to hold and reposition the lash tape with the tweezers than it is with the fingers. To shop, please click here.   You can also place your hand lightly on the client's head to aid in stabilization, which is why we keep the isolating hand in place. The isolation tweezer does not press down into the gel pad because your hand is naturally resting on the client's forehead, so there is no pressure for you to point the tweezer downward. I lash back and forth from the right eye to the left eye. I like to allow the extension that I just attached to dry and cure without interruption. I'm usually lashing in different sections of the lash line from the last lash I just attached, especially if you're pushing lashes around and they accidentally stick to one another. That's why I prefer working back and forth from eye to eye. I do this to give them time to dry and cure, but I also do it because I prefer to fill in the lash line evenly and gradually build up the fullness throughout the entire eye. My lash strategy is to isolate all of the long and thick natural lashes because they're the easiest to separate and attach big volume fans to those lashes. It allows me to create more volume quickly because I'm applying big fans throughout the lash line, and then I work on the smaller natural lashes with smaller fans. I go to a different section of the lash line and fill in the gaps. Sometimes I like to use a tweezer to peel off the lash tape since it's easier to grip onto and finish off. I always spend about 1-2 minutes fanning my client's lashes and face because it is just too cool, and it helps a lot with removing the lingering fumes and vapors of the lash glue. Push down on the natural lash with gentle pressure to assist the volume fan in adhering more securely. Bottom placement helps elevate downward-pointing lashes. For this method, use your wrist to angle the extension's base to match the natural lash, then pull toward you until you feel it's securely attached. LASH TECHNIQUE #2 Another way to add volume to the natural lashes is to use a volume fan on top of them. I wanted to show the necessity of applying pressure for a more extended period and holding the fan in place for a little longer, especially with glues that cure or dry slowly.  You can use a huge fan and wrap it with lashes before sliding it into position. It works incredibly well for big fans to avoid the boxy bases. There are a few reasons you might want to do it if you have a problem with lashes closing when you make your fans by hand or if the bases aren't thin enough for you. Also, if it takes you a long time to do a complete volume set, crystallizing will significantly cut down on that time because you created the fans already, but make sure your base is always flawless.Always look for a tweezer that is consistent. When it comes to lashing, consistency is vital. It comes with time and effort, but choosing the appropriate tools will make your lash game a lot smoother. The wet lash style resembles classic lashes but with more volume. When you get out of the shower or wet your lashes, they have that clumped-up look, so you will make fans that look clumped up. FIRST TECHNIQUE Use flower cups or adhesive rings as a starting point. Alternatively, you can use 0.03 lashes, which are much lighter. You don't want to use classic lashes for a wet effect. Grab some lashes with your curved tweezer or your favorite tweezer shape. Make sure you're using a good-grip tweezer. For the wet lash effect, you'll need about a couple of lashes, and you may go as thick or light as you want with them. On the other hand, some lash artists prefer a very light look with no fanning. You can make them look more spikey or like a classic lash base. You can also do spikes by sticking the base in the flower cup and sliding it through. Pulling the lashes out and slipping them into the flower cup is all it takes. TIP: Pinch the lash with your tweezer and ensure that the ends are stuck together. To shop, please click here.   Glue aid is just what you need to speed up the drying time of lash adhesives that aren't curing correctly due to low humidity. The glue aid should be the first tool you grab if your bond takes too long to dry and you want to speed it up. You don't need a glue aid when working in high humidity environments because your adhesives will naturally speed up due to the high humidity levels. It could be the key to resolving your lash room's temperature and humidity issues.   To create a wet look, apply the glue aid to the base and run it through the lashes. Wipe the whole lash line with a tiny micro swab. As you can see, the lashes are starting to get wet, so bring it up and brush it along the lash line. Lashes and Lash Adhesive Cure Aid are used here. To shop, please click here.   Take your tweezer and pull just where each slight indentation is visible with it. It's almost as if there's a crack through which you could reach and pull out. Place the lash on top of the flower cup. It's as easy as that to get a wet lash effect. By dipping it in the adhesive and sliding it through the flower cup, you're crystallizing it. It will harden and keep its shape, so when you want to put it on the natural lashes, dip it in a small amount of glue and place it on the natural lashes, this will keep it closed. However, many lash artists have a particular preference for grabbing more lashes. CLEAN THE CLIENT’S LASHES Before starting a complete set or fill, always make sure the client's lashes are clean. After you've washed the lashes, dry them with a fan. If your client is allergic to gel patches, you can use lash tape, microfoam tape, or any other lash tape that does not include any gel. Nevertheless, the ordinary lash tape will work for not allergic clients. Because they may close their eyes and the eye pads may shift somewhat, make sure it's comfortable and doesn't poke their eyes. Ask if it's good or bothering them.   APPLY THE PRIMER To begin, apply the primer. A primer will eliminate the natural oils in the lash, allowing the extension to adhere to the natural lash. Any extra oils will be removed, making it easier for an extension to stick. A lash primer is an excellent choice when it comes to lash retention.If you want to remove oil and dust from the natural lashes and increase the grip of the extensions, only a tiny amount is required. To shop, please click here.   Just a quick tip, using a lash primer on a client's dry lashes may cause them to dry out, even more, preventing the glue from fully seeping into the surface. Use a lash primer if a client has oily skin and oily lashes. Also, mixing brands and products is okay if you're comfortable doing so.   LASH APPLICATION Apply in the same way as classic lashes. They're similar to classic lashes, although they're a little thicker. Wet lashes are known because these volume fans or spikes are applied as if they were classic lashes. It's as basic as it gets. There's nothing complicated about it. I'd also like to emphasize the importance of not brushing the lashes out at any time during the set. I only brush them up to lift and see whether they look the way I want them to because I didn't want them to get fluffy. They have a big sweet spot making it easier to pick up off strip and hold the extensions until you apply it to the natural lashes. When you're a newbie, stick with anything that takes 2-3 seconds to dry or 4-5 seconds if you are in your first few weeks of learning. You'll need to know how to apply it properly, as well as the time to do so. You're not isolating well yet, so stick with slower drying time adhesive. When you get your adhesive bottle, I always advise everyone to shake it literally. I shake my glue bottle for 2 minutes in the morning when I come in to see my first client. To properly shake your glue, open the container, cover it with a small piece of foil, and shake it for 2 minutes. Aside from choosing the correct adhesive, shaking the glue is one of the most important things you can do to ensure good retention. Let me break it down. You have a heavy adhesive that sinks to the bottom of the bottle and a thinner stabilizer. The stabilizer prevents the glue from drying out too quickly, becoming runny and sticky. The stabilizer is very light and flows on top. If your bottle has been sitting for a while and you don't shake it well before using, you may notice color that is not mixing very well, which means you're getting all the stabilizer but not any adhesive because your adhesive is down in the bottom. When you put the extension on, and it doesn't stick, or when you put it on, and it sticks somehow the next day, your client will surely call you that all the lashes fall off. Some lash artists mistake squeezing the bottle when dropping the glue. Never press your bottle because when you pinch, it deflates, and when you let go, it sucks up all the air inside your bottle. Some lash artists prefer shaking it by hand rather than using a brush since shaking it by hand allows you to adjust your speed (faster or slower) and thoroughly mix it. I've seen people shake it up and down with the cap attached. Still, I wouldn't recommend it because if your adhesive is thin (many bonds have thin viscosity), it will go out onto the nozzle and stick to the top of your lid, ruining your cap. A lash bath is a cleansing process that we use to prepare our client's natural lashes before applying extensions. The purpose of the bath is to remove oil and impurities from your natural lashes, which will ensure that your extensions last longer. Lash bath isn't just for lash artists. It's a must-have for all clients and anyone with eyelash extensions. We give it to our clients when they first visit us in our lash room so that we can ensure that they're following proper aftercare at home. We use a lash shampoo on extensions because it's an oil-free product. Anything with oil in it will cause the lashes to fall off. This is a surprisingly tricky question to answer because there are so many different opinions out there. After reading this blog, you will feel more confident about using other adhesive surfaces for your lash extensions.   JADE STONE The most popular choice is a jade stone. It keeps the surface cold, which reduces the oxidation of your glue, allowing each glue dot to last a little longer. However, you should always cover it with something else if you don't want the glue to stay after you've used it, and the best way to fix this is to soak the jade stone in acetone for 45 minutes, which will dissolve the old adhesive. You can cover it with microfoam tape, breathable tape, or aluminum foil. Just make sure that you always clean it. It's not going to make a massive difference in how long it's going to last, but extra few minutes make a difference for your glue. However, it has fewer drops. There are only 6 of them, which is sufficient for most sets. It is an excellent way to remind the lash artist that the glue drop needs to be changed every 30 minutes. It keeps your glue drop in the perfect concave form, extending the life of the adhesive and preventing it from drying too soon. So far, we've found it handy. They can be applied straight to the glue ring or any other surface you're working on, but they were designed to go with the glue ring. You may slip your fan bases through the V edges or slit to sharpen them and make them less boxy. It's an excellent tool for generating fans, particularly for novices. It is not, however, recyclable.   PRO TIP: You can use aluminum foil. You can also use it on your glue ring or jade stone and cut it out in the shape that will fit your preferred surface. Once you've finished using the adhesive, remove the aluminum and throw it to extend the life of your tools. What is a lash fill-in? How do they do eyelash fills? What is the difference between complete set and lash fill? A lash fill-in is a service between a client's monthly fills. This can be a great way to get more wear out of the lash extensions and keep them looking fresh. A lash fill is also a good option if a client wants to add more volume or length to their lashes. In this blog, we will be talking about lash fill, when you should do or not do a fill, and the steps to follow when doing a refill. New lash extensions are applied to the client's natural lashes as the old ones fall out; that is what you call lash fills. Your client should come in every 2 to 3 weeks, but longer wait times may imply that filling the lashes will take longer because there will be more lashes to fill. No booking site They didn't book follow up appointment Not informing client the importance of lash maintenance They did not like lash extensions They found it too expensive   Here's why we need lash fill every 2-3 weeks because lashes grow out: After week 3, it's always advisable to charge a client for a full set after week 3, because there will be too many lashes that have grown out, and will need to be removed. There will be almost no lashes left over, and time wise it will take almost the same time as a full set. To shop, please click here. The client comes and says I'm here for my refill, and I have about 40 % of lashes left. That's is technically accurate. BUT…60-70% of those lashes have grown out to the point that they will twist over and OR break the client's natural lashes if not removed. Therefore the lash artist will spend about 15-20 min removing the grown-out lashes, then proceed to an almost FULL set, except about 10-20 lashes in each eye. Keep in mind that time-wise, this now took 1.5-2 H almost the same time of not the same time as a FULL set.Therefore, if you are a lash artist, feel yourself burning out and feel like you are not charging your worth, this could be one of the culprits.So how to solve this issue? You need to educate your clients and explain to them that since you have had to remove most of the grown lashes and charged for a FULL set ( most will be understanding )It will NOT happen at every appointment with every refill, but it could happen every 3rd or 4th refill for most clients.Protect your time and your boundaries. Lash fill is a controversial topic. It can be challenging when you're a beginner. Straight Isolation Tweezer, Precision Volume 90 Degree Tweezer, Hydrogel Under Eye Patches, Ultra Crystal Bond and Lashes are used in this set. To shop, please click here.   Refills are not the best for beginner lash artists, because you will continue to make mistakes as a new lash artist, and your work will not be perfect, which is just fine. However, with refills, your errors might compound, meaning you'll be still figuring out how your glue works, which means you'll continually make stickies in your career, which isn't ideal. Aside from stickies, there will be some lashes that have outgrown, and you need to remove, as well as other lashes that will fall off, leaving gaps that will need to fill, and you'll be learning how to apply volume.I would recommend removing the lashes entirely and doing a complete new set for beginners. Ultra Crystal Bond, Lashes, Lash Wisps, and Vintage Lash Mirror are used in this set. To shop, please click here.   IF THE CLIENT HAS LESS THAN 40% OF EXTENSIONS Based on what I've learned, I wouldn't recommend refilling if your client has less than 40% of her lashes remaining from the last set. It is because it'll take the same amount of time as completing a full set. After all, you'll have to go through and remove stickies, prep, and clean the lashes.   A LOT OF STICKIES If the clients have a lot of stickies, you'll have to go through them one by one and remove them using the banana peel method. It can take a long time, and if there are a lot of stickies, it's sometimes easier to remove the entire set, and starting over.   IF THE CLIENT WANTS A DIFFERENT LASH STYLE You won't refill if the client wants a different kind of mapping. For example, let's say the client comes in with a complete set of volume lashes from a previous lash set, and she wants you to do a wispy look on her. In this case, it's much better to tell the client, "Let's remove your full set and start over and do a perfect set of wispy volume lashes."   IF THE CLIENT DOESN’T TAKE GOOD CARE OF HER LASHES Lastly, I would not recommend a refill if the client has terrible lash care, and when she comes in, her lashes are dirty and unkept. I'd suggest removing the lashes and doing a complete set, as well as educating the client on proper lash care. One tweezer holds the natural lash, while the other keeps the extension. To shop, please click here.   STEP #2 Simply pulling in different directions, as if peeling a banana, should easily separate the lashes. You probably applied too much lash adhesive if it doesn't work, and you have to use a lot of force. It takes a bit longer, but it's more gentle and just as effective at removing outgrown lashes before a refill. You can use this technique if your client has a lot of outgrown lash extensions, and you don't want to use the banana peel technique. STEP #1 Apply paper tape on the client's eyelid in a circular way.   STEP #2 Take the lashes that you need to isolate and put them on top of the tape. Mega Volume Lashes, Optite Low Humidity Adhesive, and Hydrogel Under Eye Patches are used in this set. To shop, please click here.   STEP #3 Apply cream remover on the adhesive areas and wait 5 min, then remove the tape, the cream remover should have dissolved the lashes. So now we'll talk about what steps you should take if you're doing a refill on one of your regular clients who has good lashes and takes care of them, and what steps you should take while doing an actual refill. I would follow them in this order.   STEP #1 LOOK THROUGH THE CLIENTS LASHES FOR ANY STICKIES If you notice a lot of stickies on your client's lashes and it looks filthy, there is probably too much glue, and you should remove it. If there are only stickies, you can use the banana peel technique to remove them quickly, and it shouldn't take long, maybe 10-15 minutes, depending on the situation. Hydrogel Under Eye Patches, Lash Tape, Lash Extension Medical Tape, L Shape Tweezer and Straight Isolation Tweezer are used in this set. To shop, please click here.   STEP #2 CLEAN THE CLIENT'S LASHES Remember to clean the lashes with lash foam shampoo, then thoroughly rinse them before applying the primer. Take a micro brush and apply it straight to the client's lashes; this will remove all the oils from the lashes and increase your client's retention. Lash Foam is used here. To shop, please click here.   STEP #3 LOOK FOR ANY OUTGROWN LASHES Use the banana peel technique to remove any lashes that have grown out past 2-3 millimeters. If you leave these lashes, they will actually twist over and can cause discomfort and possibly cause the natural lashes to get damaged. Most lash artists and most salons charge 45-50% of the full set price for a fill as long as the client comes within 2-3 weeks. The important distinction is to make sure the client still has at least 40% of their lashes remaining. If the client has less than 40 % of their lashes, they should be charged for a full set, as it will take almost as much time as a full set.Many lash artists also charge by the amount of time they spend on their client's sets. For example, if it takes the lash artist 1h30 minutes to do a set, they may charge 150$; for 2h they may charge 200$; for 2h30 they may charge 250$. A lash refill will help repair any damage from falling out faster than usual so that they look healthy again. You should also emphasize the need for refills to your client and educate them on the value of lash care. The normal lash growth cycle will cause extensions to shed. Lash fills are a great way to extend the life of the lashes and should be done every 2 to 3 weeks or depending on how quick the lashes fall out.
