I got some lash techniques advice from other lash artists, some from watching YouTube videos about eyelash extensions, but most of it is the ones that I tried on my own.I made this list of the things that I think would be beneficial for you and might help you with your lash journey. But thankfully, we've got some tips to make your life as a lash artist just that much easier.   1. How To Store Your Lash Adhesive Store it in a vault that will protect it from humidity after opening it.  This item is a storage box designed for eyelash adhesive—made of premium material, durable for long-term use. When you close the cap, most of the air in the jar is squeezed out via the small opening, resulting in a vacuum-sealed bottle. Always Burp Your Adhesive Always burp your adhesive to ensure that your bond lasts for as long as possible (usually four weeks). If you do not burp the lash adhesive, the air will get into the glue, making it much less effective. Ultra Crystal Bond is used here. Natural oils and dirt must be removed from the lashes for adequate bonding. It's at this point when lash primer comes in helpful. Glue: Give your bond a good shake before using it. The ingredients in your glue can separate if you leave it out for too long. To properly mix everything, shake for around 30 to 60 seconds. Humidity: The lash adhesive works best when the humidity level is between 40 and 60 percent. Have a hydrometer to keep the humidity in your lash room in order. It is a must-have tool that is also reasonably priced. Temperature: To keep your glue consistent, ensure your temperature is in the correct range. As you guys guessed, the "ergonomically" is correct. The way to hold your tweezers is the method on the right.This method allows your wrist to be at a natural position that prevents fatigue and injury and gives you even tension on the tweezer for gripping the lash/fan.If you are someone who holds their tweezer-like pencil and finds holding it the other way awkward, keep practicing DAILY to correct it. Shake Your Lash Adhesive Always ensure that your clients get the best retention. Lash retention is a complex subject we could talk about at length for hours.Suppose I can give you guys one tip. That may help or not help if other factors need to correct.If you haven't mixed your adhesive yet, it will look like the first drop in the photo. It will appear as if it has condensation. Double-handed isolation technique. You can use both of your hands to isolate lashes. It is one of the easiest ways to work on your client's lashes. You can help yourself with the second hand to isolate until you feel confident using only one hand.The single-handed isolation technique is when you use only one hand to isolateTo help with isolation, you can isolate the lashes vertically by using tape or patches to help visualize the lash layers and lash every lash.. The most crucial aspect would be proper grip. If the isolation tweezer allowed you to have a fantastic grip, it would be much easier to isolate.You can use one tip to isolate with two tweezers and help with your 4th finger to get the lashes out of the way. Don't be afraid to find the perfect position, even if it's not how your lash course taught you to do it.The correct grip for your isolation tweezers is vital. You can try holding your lash tweezers like a pen to be able to approach the natural lash from various angles.Another tip is to try isolating from the side of the lash line at a 45- 30-degree angle. It will assure that you can separate the natural lashes easier, especially if they are dense and thick.Keep in mind that you are isolating only from the top of the lash line. You are not giving yourself the view of all the angles. Lash techs, like all independent contractors and business owners, must pay taxes on their income. The exact amount will depend on your earnings, expenses, and the tax bracket you fall into. All these forms are part of the year-end 1040 income tax filing. As a self-employed artist, you will usually pay estimated quarterly taxes using Form 1040-ES if your Federal tax liability is over $1,000.   For the IRS, deductible business expenses: Incurred in connection with your trade, business, or profession.Must be "ordinary" and "necessary."Must "NOT be lavish or extravagant under the circumstances." These guidelines are not an exact science. The artist has a large group of basic expenses that easily fit the above criteria: travel (hotel, meals, etc.), vehicle and transportation costs, equipment, art supplies, home studio expenses, legal and professional fees, gallery costs, and commissions, etc. Below are some of the more complex and contentious deduction areas.   IS BEING AN ARTIST A BUSINESS? To comply with the IRS, an artist must consider if their art practice is a business or a hobby for tax purposes. Artists often have financial losses—overhead exceeds the profit brought in by the sale of the artwork. When does the tax code determine an enterprise to be a business instead of a hobby?   HOBBY Although you must claim the total amount of income you earn from your hobby, hobby-related expenses are generally deductible only to the extent of income produced by the activity. Therefore, if you do not generate any income from your hobby, you cannot claim any deductions. Furthermore, even those hobby expenses which can be deducted are subject to an additional limitation—they are considered miscellaneous itemized deductions on Schedule A, which are deductible only to the extent that they exceed 2% (at this writing) of your adjusted gross income. By contrast, if your activity can be classified as a bona fide business, you may be able to deduct the total amount of all your expenses by filing a Schedule C. In short, a hobby loss will not cut your overall tax bill because the tax law stipulates that you cannot use a hobby loss to offset other income.   BUSINESS As a business, you can deduct a net loss from other income you earn, such as wages and salaries. How does the IRS determine whether your activity is a hobby or a for-profit business? The IRS outlines these nine criteria:Whether you carry on the activity in a business-like manner. Whether the time and effort you put into the activity indicate, you intend to make it profitable.Whether you depend on income from the activity for your livelihood.Whether your losses from the activity are due to circumstances beyond your control (or are normal in the start-up phase of your type of business).Whether you change your methods of operation in an attempt to improve profitability.Whether you have the knowledge needed to carry on the activity as a successful business.Whether you were successful in making a profit in similar activities in the past.Whether the activity makes a profit in some years, and how much profit it makes.Whether you can expect to make a future profit from the appreciation of the assets used in the activity.The primary determinant is your ability to make a profit at what you are doing. If your efforts result in a gain in three-out-of-five consecutive years, your activity is presumed not to be a hobby by the IRS. You may have to prove to the government that you have made a genuine effort to earn a profit, so keep meticulous business-related records and conduct yourself in a business-like manner.   You need to keep track of the following expense items: Travel expenses Office rental (whether at home or not) Commissions or payments to managers or employees Equipment used in your trade Auto insurance and repairs Supplies and materials Unique clothing or safety equipment for your work Legal and accounting fees or services Bank fees Studio rent and expenses Utilities, including phone/Internet Entertainment and meals related to your business Business fees Equipment rental Publications, periodicals, and other research materials Fees for workshops and seminars Membership or association dues Shipping or mailing Repairs or maintenance Insurance Advertising Sales taxes   You need to keep track of the following income items: Proceeds from the sale of your work Income from rented or leased work Wages or salary paid for work as an artist, including honoraria, commissions, fees, and stipends Grants, awards, and fellowship funds Copyright royalties for published or distributed works Advance payment for work to be completed in the future   Sales taxes You should have the following information for each item: Date Amount Buyer Reason for the income or expense/description Check number, invoice, tracking number, or indication of another form of payment. Grab your extension and apply pressure on your lash tweezers with a heavy, firm grip to prevent you from losing any lash extension. Using your thumb and index finger, run through, pinch the base, and keep your tweezers completely tight. I had no idea that you didn't have to toss out the lashes if it didn't work on the first try. I spent so much money on lash trays to practice. Why does this happen? Most outrun it's because your lash tweezers are too tight and rigid, and you are holding it too close.In addition, the direction of the lash fan is essential. To achieve the perfect lash fans, I like to tilt the fan slightly to the side while making it. It helps me make more perfect fans and helps significantly with symmetry. The direction of the lash fan is responsible for the following moments: How perfect your lash line will look If your lash line with be evenly full How clean your work will look ⠀   Frequent problems in a lash fan formation, and why do they happen? The fans are open too wide  The fans collapse  The fans are too narrow And many others   Ideally, the more perfect your lash fans, the more excellent will be your lash line and the cleaner your work will look.   I release the lash, tweezers lightly, and dip the leg of the fans into the lash glue. Porosity refers to the ability of the hair cuticle to open or close, and it plays a significant role in how lash extensions adhere to the natural lashes. In this topic, we will explore the impact of porosity on lash retention and delve into the difference between low and high porosity. Moreover, I will share insights on how to address low porosity to ensure long-lasting lash extensions.             The Importance of Open Cuticles Imagine cuticles as the outermost protective layer of the hair shaft. These cuticles can open or close due to various internal and external factors. When it comes to lash extensions, we actually want the cuticles to be slightly open. This provides a surface for the lash glue to hold onto and attach more securely, resulting in better retention.   Low Porosity and Closed Cuticles Low porosity refers to a situation where the hair cuticles are mostly closed. In this case, the surface of the lashes becomes less receptive to the lash glue, making it difficult for the extensions to adhere properly. This can lead to premature shedding and a shorter lifespan for the lash extensions.   High Porosity and Textured Hair On the other hand, high porosity implies that the hair cuticles have more texture and are more open. This allows for better adhesion of the lash extensions, as the glue can penetrate the cuticles and create a stronger bond. The way I see it, it is much harder to customize your lash fans according to your client’s request. Well, I'm here to inform you that doing them is really important. It's essential to the lash appointment process and will help clients get the most out of their lash extensions. Did you know that lash extensions can cause allergic reactions in some clients? Yes, I didn't realize it until I did my patch test to improve my client experience. Whenever you get a new client, you must do a patch test. It will help you identify if they are allergic to the lash extension glue or not. It is usually done at least 24 hours before their procedure so that you will be able to observe if they have any reaction. In this article, we'll show you how to do a patch test on your clients.
